What is APT?

APT is a group of artists and business people dedicated to helping artists who either live or sell their work in Texas, providing exposure, innovative exhibitions, lucrative opportunities for artists, seminars, social art outings, and avenues to help artists refine their presentation.

We celebrate creative innovators, and foster a relationship with professionals and patrons interested in great art.

This is your art organization, so APT wants to hear about any new trails you are blazing in the art world, and what YOU want to see more of - how can we assist you as an artist?

Greetings,

What if you could climb behind your buyer's eyes?

APT is all about becoming the best you possible. Have you ever wondered how others see your art work?

Presentation of an artist's work if often overlooked by the artist since it's difficult to be objective. Have you ever sat down and thought about the message you want your body of work to communicate to the world? When people go to your website, what do they see?

We hope you will attend
our first workshop March 10th, to explore some of these questions about your own presentation, to help you become the very best artist you can be!

Safety Tips for the Artist

Proper attire or lack thereof, makes all the difference in how many limbs or eyebrows you can retain. Here's how to keep them all!

As an art professional, taking time to be conscious of your environment with safety in mind will lead to fewer accidents in the work place, even if that's your garage.

Those who work in a medium other than metal or glass may tend to disregard safety as much, but every medium requires a degree of focus and awareness.

Dedicate part of your wardrobe to work clothes made of low or non-flammable material when using a torch, mig, or machinery that produces flames or sparks. (Nylon, wool, and fleece are quite flammable; cotton, burlap and leather work well.)

You will need more than just excellent welding boots.

Sparks can land on work jeans that are tattered and quickly start to smolder, so even if you are well protected, stay aware and avoid using power tools or torches when overworked or over-tired. Don't wear clothing with laces or ties that can get caught in machinery, and avoid loose clothes that can drape or fall into your work space.

Although this outfit provides protection, it does not allow for flexibility and may ignite, giving you the wrong kind of warm glow.

Having tools or flame too close to the face, hands, or feet can cause permanent or short term injury; so adequate protection with leather bibs, gloves, and safety glasses that fit well, is essential! When using a grinder on metal, always use ear plugs to protect your hearing.

Name 3 reasons why these are not good welding shoes.

Shoes are very important if you work in metal or glass. Make sure they have an all leather top and thick sole, although old tennis shoes can work in a pinch. To protect your head and eyes, auto-darkening, solar powered helmets are a great investment. Those in a hurry who have welded without a helmet or adequate coverage, understand the unpleasant consequence of a radiation sunburn!

Keep from going bald the un-natural way by tying hair back and wearing proper headgear...

All-leather gloves, covered on both front and back are the best way to keep that prized knuckle hair. Gloves should fit your hand snuggly in order to grip work and tools comfortably.

...this is NOT proper headgear. Use your noggin and protect it with a good helmet.

An excellent filtered face mask or respirator appropriate to the dust and fumes you work around is extremely important. (Welding experts recommend 3M brand.) If you have a closed work space, try to implement a fresh air supply system with real HEPA filters, for the sake of your lungs. Spend a little more time taking necessary precautions now, and you'll be rewarded with additional years to work in your preferred medium!

For our APT painters, here's what to wear when painting outside.

The contrast between metal structural form and natural feather, together with repetitive and whimsical movements of fragile wings, provoke the imagination and evolve an intimate relationship between work and viewer/wearer.
