Greetings!
Happy New Year! According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2012 is the Year of the Dragon, starting January 23, 2012, ending February 9, 2013. The Dragon, a creature of myth and legend, is the ultimate auspicious symbol of power, success and happiness. May this year of the Dragon bring you good luck!

As an APT core member or patron member, you are receiving this monthly in-house newsletter to keep you updated on our progress, let you know what our members are up to, and more. Please click on all underlined links for more information.
Although we have been a private club until the website goes online (hint: we really like Chinese New Year), read about our Launch Party and our first workshop!
It seems there are big changes happening in the world. How can each of us as an artist positively impact others this year? By sharing the gift of inspiration with those who need it! See videos below of what people accomplished by working together. Every great accomplishment throughout history has been a collaboration, requiring separate parts to work in unison. Regardless of what may happen around us, I hope each of us will decide to make 2012 our best year ever!
Next month you'll hear more about our shows, seminars, artful events throughout Texas, and much more! Stay tuned!
Sincerely,
Cassandra Fink, APT President

Armour for cats…what?

Artist Jeff de Bour excerpt on creating armour for cats and mice…
Q. How long does it take to make a suit of armour for a cat or a mouse?
A. Someone once asked a famous painter how long it took to complete a painting. His response—"25 years." It's not just the amount of time it takes to actually build a piece, it is also the years of work needed to attain the necessary skills and tools. I have always been able to work quickly and with few mistakes. Still, it does take time to make a mouse or a cat. Some silver mice can take up to 20 hours to build and another 10 hours to polish, and we haven't even made a base for it yet. Some mice are less complicated or have different finishes, thus taking less time to build. With this in mind, I would say that a mouse will take from 10 to 40 hours to make. As for cats, the same thing applies, but as you go bigger, things simply take longer. A cat will take from 50 to 200 hours.

Why are so many artists partial to felines? Could it be their quirky behavior and fierce independence ("kind of like herding cats")? Watch this video, guaranteed to make you smile.

Carrying acetylene tanks in your car…

Every sculptor who works with steel but has no pick-up truck has probably pondered the wisdom and convenience of taking home a gas tank in their car. A story from someone who did…
I had an acetylene bottle in my truck, the valve was bumped so slightly and overnight the truck filled with the gas. I noticed the smell, and opened the doors to air out the truck. I drove the truck out of the garage to get some more air movement. I went to roll the passenger-side window down, and as soon as I touched the power windows, BAM. With me in the truck. I lost all hearing out of my right ear and got a scratch on the back of my head. All things considering, I'm alive… pictures tell 1000 words.
"So my time almost came to an end this morning. I'm very lucky to be alive. First of all, GO HUG YOUR WIFE/HUBBY and tell them you love them.
Don't take any minutes or seconds you have for granted… they may be your last. Peace everyone." -Someone glad to be alive
The moral of the story - If you can't have tanks delivered, borrow a pick-up truck and strap down all gas tanks vertically and standing up in the back, so they are not in a closed cabin with you or any passengers.
