Inspiration |
Agápe
"Classical Greek: ἀγάπη, agápē; love of one's fellow man. Divine, unconditional, self-sacrificing, thoughtful love of friends or family. Affection for a particular activity."
I'm quite sure that all true professional artists, of every description, in all walks of life, whether their craft is painting, music, sculpture, medicine or anything, have one primary concern - mankind".

Nietzsche observed in his 1878 book,
Human, All Too Human:
"Artists have a vested interest in our believing in the flash of revelation, the so-called inspiration... shining down from heavens as a ray of grace. In reality, the imagination of the good artist or thinker produces continuously good, mediocre or bad things, but his judgment, trained and sharpened to a fine point, rejects, selects, connects.... All great artists and thinkers are great workers, indefatigable not only in inventing, but also in rejecting, sifting, transforming, ordering."

Atrium Gallery - and its art-loving owners

We visit our artist members on occasion to report firsthand on how they create their work. For Valentine's Day, we present an artist couple. Nestled among the natural beauty of fragrant pine trees in East Texas is a gem called Atrium Gallery...
 |
"Dolphin Games" by Al Moore |
APT Featured Artist, Al Moore, and his wife Georgia, (owners of Atrium Gallery) host fundraising dinners in a perfect setting of elegant fine art to raise money for the arts in East Texas. As fortunate guests, we can tell you that if you're ever traveling out that way, Bent Pine Studios and Atrium Gallery is well worth stopping in to see! Opened in 2006, it's filled not only with Al and Georgia's work, but art they've collected from the far ends of the earth. Learn about Bent Pine Studios and see more of Al's award winning stone sculptures and featured article on our website.

| Bonehead Duet by Georgia Moore |
Co-owner of the gallery Georgia, works primarily in clay and ceramics. Her work ranges from the representational to more playful work, much like the artist herself. Voted "Best Artist of the Upper East Region of Texas" in County Line Magazine, Georgia studied sculpture under Octavio Medallin, with work showing at museums in Pittsburgh and Mount Vernon. She's taught art classes for some time, and in 2006, married her best student, Al.
Georgia is most inspired by the changing patterns around her in the wild. Curious by nature, she refers to her designs as "gifts from the earth," even so far as making a mold of a dead snake in order to duplicate it in her tile/plate nature series.
At the Atrium Gallery, Georgia's creative talents extend not only to the kiln, but the kitchen oven. We sampled her exquisite petite high heeled shoe cookies that she painstakingly paints by hand with a paintbrush dipped into a multitude of edible glazes. She recently completed 36 white glazed, hand formed lilies, created to hold fresh lemon sorbet for their fundraisers. You can see more of Georgia's work in our online APT Gallery. |
