Greetings!
We hope you will join us this month on our first Field Trip!
Thanks to those who came to our workshop! Anne Neal had this to say...
"This workshop was full of priceless information from Lois Weaver who teaches corporations how to best 'present' their image and enhance their web presence. The event was really exceptional and anyone who missed it really 'missed the boat.' Full of all kinds of insider information about web site searches and search engine optimization (of course there is an acronym 'SEO') to maximize the chance of your site getting near the top on search results. Thanks!"
We have many more workshops in store taught by a variety of people with information to share on how to get your art out there in the most professional way possible. Stay tuned!
Please click on all underlined links for more information.
Sincerely,
Cassandra Fink, President

Look Who's Talking About Art

Eliseo Garcia

Some of you know our member Eliseo Garcia. Sure, you may know he's an international sculptor and that he was awarded 3D Visual Artist of the Year by the State of Texas. But did you know that he's also a painter? That he likes to dance? Or about his childhood experience with tornadoes? There are so many details that go into making us who we are as an artist, details unconsciously reflected in our art work.
Eliseo believes that "True art comes from the heart. It is important to work spontaneously and effortlessly, and let go of the mental and emotional limitations that keep me from creating artwork which lacks substance, meaning, and spirit."
Read his interview with Tom Hussey here, or see more work on his website, www.sculptoreliseo.com

Safety Tips for the Painter
1) Food, drinks, and paint don't mix well. Avoid placing your cup of tea or coffee next to your brush water or you may be drinking something unpallete-able. It's easy to dunk a brush in the wrong cup when concentrating on your art.
2) Never put a brush with paint on it in your mouth, no matter how tempting it is to get a nice point on it for detail work. (You wouldn't do this with a brush if using wall paint.)
3) Keep your art materials out of the reach of kids. Paint is paint to the average child; there's a huge difference between red paint formulated for kids and a tube of cadmium red.
4) Keep solvents in their original containers and not in a juice bottle, for obvious reasons. Store them away from heat and flames (and don't let anyone light up a cigarette).
5) Keep a shop vac around to vacuum up pastel dust if you use pastels; nothing fancy, just a simple one with a decent filter will do. Broom sweeping will put pastel and other dust back into the air.
6) Always keep this special solvent on hand... In addition to practicing safety awareness, the most powerful solvent every artist should have on hand is laughter. If properly used, it can dissolve frozen mental blocks to creativity. When not used, there is severe danger of not enjoying the creative process, which could eventually show up in your art. Don't do this!
What artist hasn't transformed a mistake they made with their art into a masterpiece? Proof that mistakes stop being failures once they become valuable lessons, or great art. Acceptance and maintaining a sense of humor helps overcome consequences from mistakes made in the studio.
We all have a story, like one of the APT board members who years ago, got a polishing dremel caught in her hair. Was it funny at the time? Uhhm, no. Is it funny now? You bet! Does she always wear a hat or helmet now, every single time she works with power tools? Now I wear at least two or three at once!
It's been said that Mistakes + time = humor. Email your stories for
Don't Do This and share them with us (anonymously or otherwise) as a teaching tool!

What is APT?
| |
APT is a group of artists and business people dedicated to helping artists who either live or sell their work in Texas, providing exposure, innovative exhibitions, lucrative opportunities for artists, seminars, social art outings, and avenues to help artists refine their presentation.
We celebrate creative innovators, and foster a relationship with professionals and patrons interested in great art.
APT is proud to be sponsored by these generous contributors.
This is your art organization, so APT wants to hear about any new trails you are blazing in the art world, and what YOU want to see more of - how can we assist you as an artist?
